Why it is faster to move a boat using 2 paddles at the same direction & at the same time?

it is faster than using 2 paddles at a different direction and time..
please relate this to physics.
The net force is the same, but the vector is only going in the direction you’re traveling. If you use one paddle at a time, the boat will turn slightly towards the side of the paddle and part of the force is applied to correcting for that and straightening out the boat again.

Force twice the normal is applied. And thus speed increase.
