Do sandpaper paddles used in table tennis give spin to the ball or kills the spin?
December 27th, 2009 | by admin |My friend said he used a sandpaper paddle in ping pong and he claims it gives a lot of spin. I personally think the sandpaper, with a lot of friction, much like the pip-out rubbers, kills the spin. And the sandpaper is usually medium fine like everyday sandpapers.
The real questions is basically do sandpaper paddles give more or less spin than a modern rubber (Butterfly, DHS, Stiga)?
i played a lot of table tennis and sandpaper paddles works the best for me because pip-out rubbers is like a square ball it goes all diff ways and a smooth paddle is slick and has no grip

imagine you had a sandpaper glove and a free spinning bicycle wheel. you can use the glove to both spin the wheel and stop it from spinning.
same in ping pong, it depends which way the ball is spinning and in which direction you rub the paddle on it.
