Is paddling (canoe kayak) good for your shoulders?
July 1st, 2009 | by admin |or does it gradually weaken them
Yes it is good to strengthen and tone the body, from the waist up, not just the shoulders. The only way to damaged would to be to over do it! it’s just like a resistance exercise, but a lot more fun. Just for the record, I have bone spurs, and torn rotator cuffs in both shoulder and this is one sport I still enjoy and does not cause pain. Kayaking in particular as my arms don’t go over my head. This is low impact activities, kayaking, swimming, biking!

Keep it up, and your shoulders will fall off. Good luck fishing ‘em outta the river! There are many doctors who will be happy to fabricate you a new pair though.

Both kayaking and canoeing when performed correctly will strengthen your shoulders. Kayaking is especially good for reducing the waistline. Canoers need to paddle on both sides to avoid problems. Either take some lessons or view ‘how to’ videos.
